Freezer Labels

Standard label adhesive goes hard in the cold, so labels lift, curl and fall off frozen packs. Our freezer labels use a deep-freeze adhesive made to grip chilled and frozen surfaces, including polythene bags, trays, film and cartons, and they hold on through cold storage and distribution.

Choose direct thermal freezer labels for short-life food, chilled distribution and courier labels, with no ribbon needed. Choose thermal transfer freezer labels where barcodes and use-by dates must stay sharp through condensation and handling. Direct thermal or thermal transfer for the freezer?

  • Direct thermal freezer labels: quickest and cheapest; fine for products that are frozen, shipped and used within months. Popular sizes: 100 x 150mm, 100 x 100mm and 100 x 50mm.
  • Thermal transfer freezer labels: printed through a ribbon, so the print resists moisture, rubbing and long storage. Pair with a wax/resin ribbon for the best smudge resistance.

Tips for labels that stay on

  1. Apply before freezing where you can. Every adhesive bonds best to a dry surface at room temperature.
  2. Wipe off frost and condensation. Ice on the pack stops any adhesive from bonding.
  3. Press firmly. Smooth the label from the centre out to remove air pockets.
  4. Match the core to your printer. Desktop printers take 25mm cores; industrial printers take 76mm.

Freezer Labels FAQ

What makes a label suitable for the freezer?

The adhesive. Freezer labels use an adhesive that stays tacky at low temperatures, so it can grip cold surfaces. Standard permanent adhesive works at room temperature but can fail once frozen.

Can I put a freezer label on a pack that's already frozen?

Yes. Freezer adhesive is designed to bond to cold and frozen surfaces, but wipe off any frost first and press the label down firmly.

Are freezer labels waterproof?

The paper face isn't fully waterproof, but thermal transfer freezer labels handle condensation well. For labels that get wet or washed, use polypropylene (waterproof) labels.

Which freezer labels fit my printer?

Any of them, as long as the size and core match your printer. Desktop printers such as the Zebra ZD421, GK420 and Citizen CL-S521 take 25mm cores; industrial printers take 76mm. Choose direct thermal if your printer has no ribbon, and thermal transfer if it does.
